Shohei Ohtani Powers Dodgers to Victory Over Mets
Ohtani Homers, Drives in Three
Shohei Ohtani continued his torrid start to the 2024 season on Sunday, homering and driving in three runs to lead the Los Angeles Dodgers to a 6-3 victory over the New York Mets.
Ohtani's Performance
Ohtani's homer came in the second inning off Mets starter Tylor Megill. It was his 15th home run of the season, moving him into a tie for the league lead.
In addition to his home run, Ohtani also singled and walked, scoring twice.
Dodgers' Offensive Outburst
Ohtani was not the only Dodgers player to contribute offensively on Sunday. Will Smith also homered twice, while Andy Pages added a solo shot.
The Dodgers' offense has been clicking on all cylinders lately, averaging 6.5 runs per game over their last 10 contests.
Mets Struggle to Keep Pace
The Mets, on the other hand, have struggled to keep pace with the Dodgers offensively. They have scored just 3.5 runs per game over their last 10 games.
The Mets' offense was particularly anemic on Sunday, managing just six hits against Dodgers starter Tony Gonsolin.
Upcoming Matchup
The Dodgers and Mets will square off again on Monday in the second game of their three-game series. Ohtani is expected to start on the mound for the Dodgers, while the Mets will send out Carlos Carrasco.
