Former Ohio State Buckeyes Standouts Connect on Long Touchdown Pass in Atlanta
Former Ohio State standouts CJ Stroud and Nico Collins picked up right where they left off in 2023, connecting on a 65-yard touchdown pass in the first quarter of their 2024 season opener on Sunday Night Football.
Stroud, who won the Heisman Trophy in 2022, completed 15 of 22 passes for 252 yards and three touchdowns in the first half, while Collins caught four passes for 115 yards and two touchdowns.
Early Lead Sets the Tone
The touchdown gave the Atlanta Falcons an early 7-0 lead over the defending NFC champion Philadelphia Eagles.
The connection between Stroud and Collins was evident from the start, as the two hooked up on a 25-yard pass on the Falcons' first offensive play.
Stroud and Collins also connected on a 35-yard touchdown pass in the second quarter, giving the Falcons a 14-0 lead.
Impressive Start to the Season
Stroud's performance was particularly impressive, as he completed passes to eight different receivers in the first half.
Collins, who was a first-round pick by the Falcons in the 2022 NFL Draft, is quickly becoming one of the most dangerous receivers in the league.
The Falcons will look to continue their hot start to the season when they host the Tampa Bay Buccaneers next Sunday.
