Erie County Board of Elections Reports Wertz Wins Democratic Primary for State Treasurer
Erie, PA - April 23, 2024 - In accordance with Act 88s reporting requirements, Erie County received a record-breaking 16,188 absentee and mail-in ballots for the 2024 General Primary Election. The deadline for returning completed ballots to the Erie County Board of Elections was 8 pm Tuesday.
Unofficial results released by the Erie County Board of Elections indicate a strong voter turnout in key statewide races. Democratic candidate for State Treasurer, Sarah Wertz, emerged victorious with 44% of the vote, beating her opponent Selena King who received 29%. The Republican primary for State Treasurer will proceed to a runoff between candidates Michael Lamb and John Peterson, who received 31% and 26% of the vote, respectively.
Additional results from other statewide races are still being tallied and will be made available as they become official. The 2024 Pennsylvania primary election has marked a historic increase in absentee and mail-in voting, highlighting the growing popularity of this voting method among voters.
