Dan Rather to Return to CBS for Interview

Former Anchor to Appear in Live Interview

Former CBS News anchor Dan Rather will return to the network for a brief appearance on Sunday, 18 years after his controversial exit. The 92-year-old Rather will be profiled in a live interview, marking his first significant appearance on CBS since he was fired in 2004.

Lawsuit Against CBS

Rather's appearance comes amidst a long-standing legal battle with CBS. In 2007, he filed a $70 million lawsuit against his former parent company, Viacom, and its then-CEO, Leslie Moonves. The lawsuit alleged that CBS had defamed Rather by accusing him of fabricating a story about President George W. Bush's military service.

Controversial Exit

Rather's departure from CBS was highly publicized and controversial. He had been with the network for 44 years and had been the anchor of the "CBS Evening News" since 1981. His exit followed an internal investigation into a "60 Minutes II" segment about Bush's military service, which was later found to be based on flawed documents.

Profile on CBS

Despite the legal battles and past controversies, Rather's appearance on CBS is a sign of reconciliation. The network has been promoting the interview with a trailer that features clips of Rather's iconic reporting and a statement from him saying, "I'm looking forward to returning to CBS and sharing my thoughts on the past, the present, and the future of journalism."
